A Letter to Pregnant Women

Congratulations! Pregnancy is a wonderful thing to experience. It is awesome to realize that a person is being formed on the inside of you, and that God trusts you with that life. You are not in this alone - God cares very much about your pregnancy. He wants you to have a full-term, healthy pregnancy in which you feel good, sleep well, and then deliver a healthy baby.

Watch What You Plant

New life always comes from a seed. A seed is planted, and when it grows, new life results. In this case, seed has been planted in you, and a new life has been formed. In Genesis 8:22 God said that while the earth remains, there will be seedtime and harvest. In this case, the harvest will be when your child is born. What a fabulous plan God has put into place on the earth, that we can sow seeds and then reap the harvest of those seeds.

Many things are seeds - the words we speak are seeds, and then we harvest whatever those words cause to grow. The things we do to help people are seeds, and we reap the harvest of that kindness. We plant money seeds into other peopleís lives and then reap the harvest that brings forth. Those are just some examples of seedtime and harvest at work in our lives. Itís important to realize that the things we think, do, and say are planting seeds, and that we will reap a harvest based on what we plant.

Be careful during your pregnancy to plant seeds that will cause a good harvest. Think and say positive things about the health of your baby, about your health, about the childbirth you will have, about your child and how happy and healthy he/she is, about the nurses you will have at the hospital, about the kindness you will be treated with at the hospital or doctorís office, and about anything else you think of! Be careful what you say, remember that you will reap a harvest based on those word seeds. The best word seeds you can plant are things the Bible says, because those are Godís words and they are good seeds with life in them. Here are some things the Bible says about your pregnancy/children:

(For other Bible promises for your children, see www.believers.org/believe/bel106.htm.)

Godís Design

God designed your body to give the baby what it needs as it forms inside you, and then to give birth to that child when the time comes. The same God who made your body to digest food, to think, and to do many other things, made your body able to do this. Godís ability to make things is fabulous Ė He made the trees to know what time of year to put out leaves, the flowers to know when to bud, the tide to know when to come in and when to go out, the sun to rise and set at the right time, and many other things! Trust in Godís ability to make things; believe that He designed your body to do this.

God Cares

God is interested in every detail of your pregnancy and childbirth and wants the very best for you. Ask Him for His wisdom to help you make the right decisions about your physician, about the healthcare facilities you choose, the method of childbirth to use, and in every decision you make. He knows what is best for you, and He does not want to keep it secret from you Ė He wants to share it with you so you can experience His best.

Pregnancy Doís

Speak Godís words over yourself, your pregnancy, childbirth, and children.

Eat well, get plenty of rest, and trust that the body God designed is doing exactly what itís supposed to.

Talk to God about your pregnancy. Tell Him how youíre feeling, ask for His wisdom in all the decisions you make.

Pregnancy Doníts

Do not listen to other peopleís bad stories Ė whether they are about pregnancy, childbirth, or anything else. God designed for your body to carry and give birth to this child, and Heíll be with you and help you do it.

Godís Word

Below are some scriptures that refer to some of the common issues faced during pregnancy. Remember that every promise God made applies whether you are pregnant or not Ė none of His promises say except during pregnancy after them! So there are many, many Bible promises that apply to you while you are pregnant Ė for example, I can do all things through Christ who strengthens me. Philippians 4:13

7 Before she travailed, she gave birth; Before her pain came, She delivered a male child.
8 Who has heard such a thing? Who has seen such things? Shall the earth be made to give birth in one day? Or shall a nation be born at once? For as soon as Zion travailed, She gave birth to her children.
9 Shall I bring to the time of birth, and not cause delivery? says the Lord. Shall I who cause delivery shut up the womb? Says your God.

13 And He will love you and bless you and multiply you; He will also bless the fruit of your womb and the fruit of your land, your grain and your new wine and your oil, the increase of your cattle and the offspring of your flock, in the land of which He swore to your fathers to give you.

4 Blessed shall be the fruit of your body, the produce of your ground and the increase of your herds, the increase of your cattle and the offspring of your flocks.

PSALM 127:3-5 NKJ
3 Behold, children are a heritage from the Lord, The fruit of the womb is His reward.
4 Like arrows in the hand of a warrior, So are the children of oneís youth.
5 Happy is the man who has his quiver full of them; They shall not be ashamed, But shall speak with their enemies in the gate.

PSALM 139:13-16 NKJ
13 For You have formed my inward parts; You have covered me in my motherís womb.
14 I will praise You, for I am fearfully and wonderfully made; Marvelous are Your works, And that my soul knows very well.
15 My frame was not hidden from You, When I was made in secret, And skillfully wrought in the lowest parts of the earth.
16 Your eyes saw my substance, being yet unformed. And in Your book they all were written, The days fashioned for me, When as yet there were none of them.

5 Before I formed you in the womb I knew you; Before you were born I sanctified you; And I ordained you a prophet to the nations.

1 The Lord is my light and my salvation; Whom shall I fear? The Lord is the strength of my life; Of whom shall I be afraid?

31 But those who wait on the Lord Shall renew their strength; They shall mount up with wings like eagles, They shall run and not be weary, They shall walk and not faint.

26 No one shall suffer miscarriage or be barren in your land; I will fulfill the number of your days.

8 I will both lie down in peace, and sleep; For You alone, O Lord, make me dwell in safety.

2 It is vain for you to rise up early, To sit up late, To eat the bread of sorrows; For so He gives His beloved sleep.

24 When you lie down, you will not be afraid; Yes, you will lie down and your sleep will be sweet.

Morning Sickness

5 But He was wounded for our transgressions, He was bruised for our iniquities; The chastisement for our peace was upon Him, and by His stripes we are healed.

16 When evening had come, they brought to Him many who were demon-possessed. And He cast out the spirits with a word, and healed all who were sick,
